Co-curricular at Turi

Christian values of Courage, Compassion and Integrity are core to a Turi education and our co-curricular programme provides the platform where these values are taught, learned, and practiced.

Co-curricular activities at Turi foster joy and growth beyond the classroom, offering children the opportunity to discover and develop their God-given talents — all within our expansive 450-acre campus on the edge of the Great Rift Valley.

One of the biggest advantages of being a full-boarding school is the time and space it enables to provide a rich variety of co-curricular activities.

Sport

We aim to cultivate a lifelong appreciation for sport by ensuring every child has a positive and enjoyable introduction through our Sports Programme – we place our values first, and have the fundamental principle of ‘Sport for All’.

Acknowledging the wide range of talents among children, the approach ensures both variety and continued interest, while upholding high standards and enjoyment in competitive sport.

Turi is a major competitor within the Kenya IAPS circuit, and are represented in all major and minor sports across under-9 to under-13.

Every child partakes in every IAPS sport throughout the year – this enables children to recognise their strengths and build upon them, thereby empowering them to make informed choices when in Senior School.

Performing Arts
Music
Turi is known for music; blessed with some of the best peripatetic teachers in the country we are unique in that we offer lessons in every orchestral instrument.

Our music offerings range from trial lessons in any instrument, individual instrument lessons for fun or ABRSM exams, orchestras, marching bands, and choirs.

The School offers a wide variety of musical opportunities, including a Junior Choir (Yrs 3-4), Middle School Choir (Yrs 5-6), Chapel Choir (Yrs 7-8), Phoenix Choir, Junior Orchetstra, Senior Orchestra, and Marching Band.

Drama
Alongside academic Drama, Turi has a healthy tradition of Co-Curricular Drama, providing performance opportunities to pupils across all year groups throughout the year.

The academic Drama journey begins in Year 5, where all pupils enjoy a weekly lesson. Pupils are also able to study for their LAMDA qualifications whilst at Turi.

Production and Events
Whether on stage, in the spotlight, or behind the scenes, all students are encouraged to engage in a wide range of events and school productions. These experiences are designed not only to celebrate talent but to build confidence, teamwork, and a strong sense of belonging. They include;
  • Annual School Production
Performed by Years 7 & 8 pupils in the Baden Powell Hall (BP Hall). Its form varies from year to year, and can be Drama, Musical or Cantata.
  • IAPS Drama Festival
Started by our Head of Drama and hosted at Turi, this event brings together schools from across Kenya for pupils to be extended in their drama skills. It is a non-competitive festival that enables teamwork, and pupils to work with others they have never met before thus developing confidence and new skills.
  • Phoenix Play
An annual production performed by Year 5s and to the prep school. It is rewritten each year to tell the story of Turi.
  • Nativity
We produce two nativity plays in the last weeks of Christmas term. One is performed by Years 1-4, and the other by the EYFS.
  • Shakespeare in the Forest
A collaboration between the Drama and English departments, the Year 8s work in small groups to produce renditions of scenes from a Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Adventure

Adventure is synonymous with the Turi Experience — an incredible school site, expansive surroundings, and an unparalleled natural setting that invite exploration. Through adventure that character is developed: resilience, confidence, strength, and perseverance are all forged when physical and emotional boundaries are tested.

On-campus Adventure

The adventure training supports both physical and mental well-being by encouraging activity, fostering a meaningful connection with nature, and offering a refreshing break from daily routines.

Trips

Off-campus Adventure – Trips and Expeditions

Local and international trips and expeditions are thoughtfully integrated into the school calendar, designed to complement the academic and personal development journey of each student.

  • Local TripsWhether exploring cultural heritage or geographical sites, engaging in service projects, or embarking on adventurous outdoor expeditions, students gain valuable life skills, broaden their perspectives, and build lasting memories beyond the classroom.
  • Overseas TripsThese trips are carefully planned to provide the utmost variety, and high-level exposure to Arts, Drama, Sport and Culture, balanced against practicable travel times and costs.

The Turi Leadership Pathway

The programme is based on a dedicated TLP teaching curriculum created in partnership with Salt & Light Leadership Coaching — a Christian leadership consultancy.
